It’s Not Getting Warm: When The Microwave Might Need Repair
Microwave Repair
Before the advent of the microwave, you reheated your food on the stove or in the oven. This time-consuming process was cut in half with microwave technology. Using powerful radiation waves, food is quickly warmed for instant meals. If your microwave has been working for years, but started acting strangely, it may be time for microwave repair. Dave’s Appliance Service, in fact, performs microwave repair to keep your kitchen running smoothly.
No Response On Control Panel
Your control panel takes a lot of abuse, including wet fingers and excessive cleaning products. If it does not respond to your finger pressure, carefully remove the panel to clean the backside. Debris and cleaning fluid may hinder its operation. Check that the microwave door is closed as well. Interlock switches, locking the door in place, must work correctly to activate the appliance. Professionals may need to be called in to replace any malfunctioning switches, however.
Noisy Operation
Strange humming, or growling, noises from the microwave typically indicate a bad magnetron. Because of its high voltage nature, this heat-inducing element must be replaced by a professional. Other noises, such as grinding, could be a turntable motor going bad. The turntable itself may be off balance, requiring a slight shift in position to work properly again.
Little Or No Heat
Your microwave uses a complex printed circuit board to create enough heat for food warming. When the appliance does not operate correctly, one or more board components may be bad. You can remove the board to see if there are any obvious signs of damage, such as a burnt capacitor, but most boards need to be replaced as one whole part. Individual components are too small to hand solder in today’s modern microwaves.
Runs For A Moment
If your microwave runs for several seconds, and shuts down, you may have multiple problems. The main circuit board could be shorting, causing loss of power. You can also have a bad power cord. Verify that the power cord is plugged into the wall with no pinched or cut areas along its length. A professional may need to troubleshoot this appliance to find all the issues.
